CALL FOR PAPERS for December 2024 Issue
We invite you to share your research through our journal, Journal of Ecosystem Science and Eco-Governance.
The December 2023 edition of JESEG signifies a milestone as it marks the inaugural release via the Online Journal System (OJS). Notably, this issue introduces a groundbreaking addition – Policy Briefs – in alignment with a proactive approach aimed at fostering stronger connections between academia, research managers, and legislators. Of particular significance is the Policy Brief dedicated to Geographic Information System Technologies for Industrial Tree Plantation (ITP) Mapping and Monitoring. It advocates for the seamless integration of these technologies into existing government policies. This integration is proposed to enhance the efficiency of mapping, monitoring, and managing ITPs across the country, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and promoting sustainable forestry practices. In essence, the December 2023 JESEG issue serves as a platform for diverse and insightful research contributions, reflecting the journal's commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering informed decision-making across various domains.
The June 2023 edition of JESEG unfolds a diverse tapestry of research, featuring substantial contributions to our understanding of biodiversity. The focal points include an exploration of the flora and fauna's status within a mining area and watershed forest reserve in the Caraga Region. Additionally, the issue delves into the geospatial distribution pattern of Xanthostemon F. Muell. Species, commonly known as Iron Wood, across the country. A notable highlight of this edition is the inclusion of Willingness-to-Pay estimates pertaining to an Enhanced Solid Waste Management system in Butuan City, Philippines. This research provides valuable insights into the community's readiness to invest in and support improvements in solid waste management practices, thereby addressing a critical aspect of environmental sustainability in the urban context.
The December 2022 issue of JESEG provides spotlight on the diverse flora and fauna thriving in the freshwater and marine ecosystems of the Caraga Region. It also documented invasive species of grasses in the campus setting as well as the dietary preference of the Alien Invasive Anurans (Rhinella marina, Hoplobatrachus rugulosus, and Kaloula pulchra) in Butuan City, Northeastern Mindanao, Philippines. A noteworthy contribution to the issue is the comprehensive documentation of the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) concerning the utilization, conservation, and marketing of economically significant fish species among the local communities residing around Lake Mainit—the deepest lake in the Philippines. This research not only sheds light on the intricate relationships between communities and their aquatic resources but also serves as a crucial resource for formulating sustainable conservation and management strategies.
The November 2022 issue of JESEG is a special edition showcasing five peer-reviewed articles stemming from the 16th National Symposium in Marine Science (PAMS16), conducted online on July 22-24, 2021 and hosted by Caraga State University. JESEG takes pride in providing a platform to disseminate cutting-edge research relevant to Philippine marine scientists, conservationists, and resource managers. The accepted papers cover diverse fields such as ecology, fisheries, environmental sciences, and the social sciences. This varied spectrum of articles underscores the interdisciplinary nature of marine sciences, highlighting the necessity for diverse perspectives to comprehend and address both global and local challenges confronting our oceans.
The June 2022 JESEG release explores a variety of environmental science and geography topics across the Philippines. These articles collectively enhance our understanding of environmental issues, traditional medicine, biodiversity conservation, marine ecology, and social aspects tied to family planning, offering valuable insights for poverty alleviation programs. The release also addresses solid waste management practices in an academic setting pre-COVID-19, establishing a baseline for comprehending waste management challenges and opportunities.
The December 2021 edition of JESEG encompasses a wide range of environmental research topics, delving into the genotoxic effects of soil from open landfills, exploring the antibacterial potential of Kyllinga nemoralis, and studying the resistance reactions of Abaca hybrids to Bunchy Top disease. The issue further addresses the diversity of lepidopterans and pteridophytes in watershed and gold-mined areas. Notably, the evaluation of management practices in the Mt. Magdiwata Watershed Forest Reserve provides valuable insights and recommendations, contributing to the discourse on sustainable conservation efforts.
The June 2021 JESEG edition presents a diverse range of environmental and geographical studies. It highlights GIS Weighted Suitability Analysis for mangrove rehabilitation, explores KAP on Domestic Wastewater Sanitation, documents ethnozoological practices of the Manobo Umayamnon tribe, and addresses zoonotic parasites in rats near the Philippines' deepest lake. Additionally, it documents strategies to bolster the soybean supply chain in the Caraga Region for improved food security and reduced dependence on imports.
The December 2020 JESEG issue covers a diverse range of topics related to biodiversity and environmental studies. These articles collectively contribute valuable insights into various aspects of biodiversity, including public awareness, parasitology in fisheries, moss flora richness, vegetation characteristics, and lepidopteran diversity in different ecosystems within the Philippines.
The June 2020 JESEG issue offers key contributions to eco-governance, enhancing our understanding of vital ecological dimensions in wetlands, including herpetofauna and avian biodiversity. The studies also investigate fish parasites, riparian plant communities, and sea cucumber ecology in various regions of the Philippines, offering valuable insights for sustainable environmental management and informed decision-making.
Maiden issue: In the inaugural debut of the Journal of Ecosystem Science and Eco-Governance, research on tourists' perceptions and their willingness to contribute to the conservation of ecotourism resources and effectiveness of management strategies in a watershed forest reserve are documented. The maiden issue also addresses critical aspects such as parasitology, watershed management, amphibian ecology, and pest control across diverse regions of the Philippines. Notably, the presence of Schistosoma japonicum in selected rice fields surrounding Lake Mainit is documented, providing essential insights into the prevalence of this parasitic disease in agricultural settings. This comprehensive collection of studies marks a significant contribution to the field of ecosystem science and governance.
